Menards and home depot practice the same rebate scam. I have send home depot for the Behr paint rebate and never receive any of them. I do the same thing with menards and they are basically the same scam. We should, as consumers report this scams to the attorney general because they are using this scam to entice you to buy their products. Menards rebates is a total scam. Either they don’t acknowledge receipt of the mailing, or they send you only a trivial amount if you submit multiple rebate receipts.
Menardshas been one of the leading stores for home improvements for over five decadesnow. Many people rely on this store for their home improvement needs where theyspend thousands of dollars. The Menards Big Card is designed to help all theMenards loyalists to get more rewards from making their purchases in the storeand a few other selected gas stations. The card offers different types ofrewards from cash back to in-store financing making it a very valuable toolespecially if you tend to do a lot of home improvement.
Menards Big Card Features
- Cash Rebate
Usingthe Menards Big Card to pay for your Menards shopping will attract a 2.0%rebate. It’s not the best in the market. It’s rather standard and not verydifferent from a majority of the other similar cards out there. The good thingwith this particular card is that the issuer, Capital One, have tried to addsome flexibility to it by including a 1% rebate that you will get from using itin selected gas stations. This is very reasonable and it sets the card apartfrom the majority of the other store-branded cards whose rewards are strictlytied to their stores and not anywhere else. Some of the gas stations eligiblefor the 1.0% rebate include Kwik Star, Kwik Trip, Holiday and Speedway gasstations.
Therebates are usually accumulated and then they are issued as merchandisecertificates on a quarterly basis. The minimum certificate that you can gethere is $5. In case you don’t reach this threshold, the rebates will be rolledover to the subsequent quarter.
- In-Store Financing
Menardsoffer their customers different financing options. These make it easier andmore affordable for you to make all your home improvements including thebiggest projects. Sadly, you cannot get in-store financing and cash rebate atthe same time. If you decide to apply for one of their financing options, youwill be exempted from their cash rebate programs automatically. Therefore, itis vital that before you choose a financing option that you do some calculationsand see whether you are likely to save more money by relying on the cashrebates or by getting one of their financing options.
Thingsget even trickier with the in-store financing option because the minimumpayments must be paid at the end of each statement period. Failure to doing sowill attract heavy APRs (29.49% variable) on the balances remaining. If thishappens and if the balance in question is high, you’ll probably end up losing alot of money and hence the whole financing plan will be rather pointless.Again, it’s crucial that if you decide to take the In-store financing path thatyou make sure all balances are cleared on time.
Someof the In-store financing plans that you can get with the Menards Big Card arethe Waived Interest Charge, Reduced Rate, and Same-as-cash monthly paymentplan.
TheWaived interest plan can be used on purchases whose pre-tax is $299 or more. This plan allows you to spread out the payments over a period of 6 monthsthrough which no interests will be applied as long as all payments are made ontime.
The Reduced Rate credit plan is used when the pre-tax purchase is $1,500 or more. The payments here will be spread out over a period of 48 months. The payments made will include a promotional interest rate of 3.99%.
- Additional Perks
NoAnnual Fees – The Menards Big Card does not charge any monthly fees. This makesit affordable to have but then most retail cards have no annual fees so it’snot something special really.
Bonusrebate savings – Once in a while, Menards allow their cardholders to getadditional rebates and savings when buying big brands such as Glade, Crest,Ajax, and Clorox. In certain seasons, Maenads offer bonus rebates that can goas high as 11% on major appliances such as interior/entry doors, windows and onhousehold furnishings like vanities and fireplaces.
Limitationsof the Menards Big Card
Unfortunately, there are a few things that may make you reconsider applying for this card.
First, the card is limited to Menards and three participating gas stations. This meansthat you cannot rely on the card for most of your everyday purchases. It alsomeans that the opportunity of earning rewards is limited to just one store anda few gas stations. In the end, you will realize that it is not the mostconvenient and rewarding card that you can get.
Therebates will be rewarded in the form of certificates. The certificates areindeed useful and they will help you save a lot of money especially if you do alot of home improvements but sadly, they are not as flexible as cash back. Youcan easily get some of the best cash back credit cards that you can use to earnsome cash from your Menards shopping and many other stores and gas stations. Anotherissue with the Big Card is the high APR and late fees. The In-store financingplans are a great way to save cash but then if you don’t clear all the balancesin time then APR and fees will milk you dry. This makes the card a terriblechoice for anyone with an unstable source of income that may affect theirability to make all the payments on time.
FinalThoughts
TheMenards Big Card does not have anything special to offer. Even Menardsloyalists are likely to get more value for their home improvements and everydaypurchases with other credit cards. Take the Capital One Quicksilver Cash forinstance. This card offers the same or slightly fewer rewards on Menardsshopping as compared to the Big Card but then it completely outshines MenardsBig Card from the fact that you can use it almost anywhere else thus earningyou more rewards and making your everyday life more convenient. The Capital OneQuicksilver Cash also comes with generous sing up bonuses, financing plans andother perks that you will find useful. Calman v5 keygen. Next 11% Sale At Menards
If you’re a loyal customer of Menards, chances are you’ve heard of the chain’s BIG credit card. Maybe a cashier has even asked you to apply. But while you might be attracted to the card’s simplicity and no-frills redemption, you shouldn’t be, and here’s why: Depending on your credit score, you can earn better and/or more flexible rewards with other retail or cash back cards, such as the Ace Rewards Visa Signature card or Citi® Double Cash Card.
Add in the card’s lack of a sign-up bonus and steep APR, and the verdict is obvious — you should steer clear of the Menards BIG credit card and consider alternative ways of earning rewards on your home improvement needs.
Standard rewards
The Menards BIG credit card comes with run-of-the-mill 2 percent rebate on Menards and Menards.com purchases. Though such a rate is nothing to scoff at, it pales in comparison to the 5 percent automatic discount available with the competing Lowe’s Consumer credit card.
The card also offers a 1 percent rebate at Speedway, Holiday, Kwik Trip and Kwik Star locations — a nice perk for devoted Menards shoppers looking to build their rewards balance more quickly. However, you’ll find much more enticing rewards on U.S. gas station purchases in the Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express, or even the store-branded cards offered by warehouse clubs Costco and Sam’s Club.
Bonus rebate savings on participating brands
In addition to the regular 2 percent rebate on Menards purchases, the BIG card gives you the opportunity to earn extra rebates and savings on big brands such as Ajax, Bounce, Clorox, Glade, Crest and more. Vectorworks 2008 serial number crack.
For example, during the week of Sept. 10-16, cardholders had access to 11 percent rebates on all major appliances, windows, interior/entry doors and household furnishings such as fireplaces and vanities. Timing your purchases to coincide with these offers is an easy way to maximize the BIG card’s value.
No annual fee, but high APR
Like most retail cards, the Menards BIG credit card doesn’t charge an annual fee — but if you tend to carry a balance, the card’s flat-rate APR of 27.24 percent is likely to eat into your rewards far more than a yearly charge. Unless you’re using deferred- or low-interest financing, try not to put more on the card than what you can afford to pay off every month.
Read the promotional fine print
While the card’s reduced-interest financing on purchases of $1,500 and greater is pretty straightforward, the deferred-interest financing option for purchases above $299 is a bit trickier to understand. It’s easy to zero in on the “0 percent” language and think the interest is waived entirely, but that’s not exactly how it works. With deferred-interest financing, interest accrues during the promotional period (in this case, six months) and is added to your overall balance if you fail to pay it in full by the deadline.
In addition, Capital One (the card’s issuer) reserves the right to withdraw your financing agreement if you miss a payment, even if you do so well before the end of the promotional period. Pay attention to your billing statements and make timely monthly payments — preferably ones that exceed the required minimum — to avoid having to pay those interest charges you were hoping to elude.
It’s also worth noting that any purchases made using special financing won’t earn rewards. If you don’t need extra time to pay off a purchase, opt for the everyday rebate instead to keep adding to your rewards balance.
Why get the Menards BIG card?
- You frequently shop at Menards and want to earn rewards on purchases you already make.
- You’re a do-it-yourselfer who wants access to promotional financing for those big home renovation projects.
- You prefer merchandise discounts over other types of rewards.
- You don’t plan to carry a balance from month to month.
How to use the Menards BIG card:
- Because of the card’s high APR, opt for deferred-interest financing over the everyday rebate if you’ll need more than a month to pay off a purchase.
- That being said, beware of deferred interest associated with the card’s special financing offers. Interest is imposed retroactively if you still owe a balance on your purchase at the end of the promotional period.
- Pay your regular balance in full every month to avoid accruing higher-than-average interest charges.
- Watch for the store’s weekly flyer to take advantage of bonus rebate savings on certain brands and items.
Is the Menards BIG card worth it?
Even diehard Menards fans will find this rewards card lacking. While it comes with no annual fee and offers bonus rebates on specific brands, neither is remarkable for a retail card. Additionally, it lacks a sign-up bonus, and its 2 percent rebate is easily beaten by other store-branded cards. Most notably, its deferred-interest financing offer on big purchases, while appealing in theory, is tricky to navigate and could lead to unexpectedly high interest charges if you still owe a balance at the end of the promotional period.
